MENTAL HEALTH ELEMENTARY

Workshop 1

We introduce the topic of mental wellness by teaching the youth about the importance of support systems and how to identify positive relationships. A series of questions and activities enables them to identify these people. To promote a healthy mind, we discuss with the students different coping mechanisms they can adopt and self care habits they can develop based on what they currently do. We provide them with tools to help them in difficult situations and then take a brain break. To finish off, we use the wellness wheel as a reference tool for an activity about all the elements that go into a happy life. By the end of the workshop, the students should have a good overview of how to take care of themselves and their mental health.

Workshop 2

We further the youths knowledge of mental health by helping them identify all the elements that go into balancing their mental health through a fun game of jeopardy. This includes exploring the importance of sleeping, eating healthy, physical activity and "me" time. We also explore the connection between feelings and actions and how to better understand certain negative emotions like stress, sadness and distractions. To conclude our work with the class, we help them develop a mental health awareness campaign in their school where they are able to share all their newfound knowledge.
